Being in the field certainly brings out your appetite.įrom now on, after dinner, everyone has a mandatory two hours in the lab a night. I’m already so excited about the excavations and what they are going to yield.Īfter we got back from the site, it was promptly time for dinner (Thank god) I was absolutely starving. I got to walk around and help people screen and if they had questions about artifacts. Finding your first artifact, whatever it may be, is such an adrenaline rush and you want to keep going. I could sense a little nervousness from some people but as soon as they got their hands dirty, I could see the fun they were having. I was really excited to get started as was everyone else. D surprised us all by telling them that they would actually be setting up their units today as well as beginning the excavation. We went to the site so everyone could check it out and to distinguish where the old units from the last dig were and where the new units would be. After lunch, I trekked back to the cabin to change and I’m really glad I did. ![]() We had been outside all morning and we were all really hungry. Steven and Holly learning how to set up excavation units. I reminded myself that I’m still learning too and that if I have questions I can always go to my professor or Angie, who is the other supervisor. I was really worried because I want to know the answer for everything and sometimes I don’t. I felt really confident in my ability to guide people along if they had questions. ![]() Om nom nom nom.Īfter breakfast, we went right into the fundamentals of shovel probing, how to screen for artifacts, how to sharpen shovels/trowels, setting up excavation units and mapping. Breakfast arrived at what seemed a really early 7:15 in the morning. Isn’t it gorgeous?īut today was a long, long day. You know the one with Shia LeBeouf….when he was still good/funny?īy the way – Really good song I’m digging at the moment (I’m so punny): Out of My League – Fitz and the Tantrums. That’s my most favorite quote from the movie ‘Holes’.
